Then ...Some people SAY they love working with kids. Then they get into the job and realize sometimes kids are sad or irritable or disrespectful or defiant - and they realize they don't really like working with ALL kids. We can do our best to develop staff and help them build the skills necessary for working with kids effectively. If staff have the temperament, personality, and character needed to work with kids, we can help them develop the skills to take their performance to the next level. But not everyone was built to work with kids. We are not doing these people any favors by keeping them in the field. Sometimes we have to counsel them out of the field - sometimes we have to make the decision for them and dismiss them.
